Leah Embrey joined the Interior Design Studio. She earned her Bachelor of Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington and recently completed her Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University. Leah worked at Glavé & Holmes as a student intern for the last year.
Elyana Javaheri is a new Landscape Architect Intern at the firm. She earned both her Bachelor of Urban Planning and Master of Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech. She most recently worked as an Urban Designer for Fairfax County’s Office of Community Revitalization. Prior to her graduate studies, Elyana held internship positions at the planning department of City of Los Angeles and AECOM. Her research interests in environmental psychology as well as historic preservation led her to conducting extensive research as a research assistant at Virginia Tech, and a study abroad opportunity the results of which has been published, presented, cited, and awarded at a number of universities and resources.
Steven Blashfield, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, is on the Virginia Association of Museums (VAM) Governing Council as the Director-at-Large. VAM is governed by a 24-member Council. The Council includes directors representing geographic regions of VAM membership, as well as the various disciplines of museums. Learn more about VAM’s Council here.
Rachel Shelton, AIA, CDT, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, was recently appointed the Architect Licensing Advisor for Virginia by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). The Architect Licensing Advisors Community exists to facilitate the flow of information to architecture students, interns, and architects about licensure and reciprocity. Licensing Advisors are local, state, or university volunteers who are committed to assisting interns navigate the path to licensure and advising architects on reciprocity. Kevin Svensen, RA, Associate AIA, is part of this year’s prestigious Virginia Society AIA Emerging Leaders in Architecture (ELA) program. Kevin is one of sixteen individuals to make up to 2016 class of Emerging Leaders, selected based on their potential to be outstanding contributors to the profession and the community. The goal of ELA is to help emerging architects learn and grow by providing tools and experiences to support their careers and future endeavors as leaders and community members. Emily Winn, AIA, passed all divisions of the Architecture Registration Exam (ARE) and is now a licensed architect in Virginia. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. With over 11 years of experience with firms in D.C. and Richmond, Emily joined G&HA as a member of the Urban Architecture Studio in June to help design and oversee construction for the renovation of three academic buildings at Virginia Tech.
