  • The Valentine, First Place, Historic Preservation Category
  • Hallsley Clubhouse, Honorable Mention, Hospitality Category

Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer Showhouse
Our designers were chosen to design the Master Bedroom for the “Hampton Manor” show house for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League. The Cape Cod inspired house is in the well-heeled Hallsley community on Richmond’s south side. The Master Bedroom is a soothing and uplifting sanctuary designed to provide respite from a stressful world. It is a place to rest and rejuvenate, to nurture one’s spirit, and relax. It is luxurious yet casual, traditional yet youthful and modern.

The Valentine
Established in 1898, the Valentine has served as the City of Richmond’s history museum for more than 100 years. It resides in a series of historic houses on Clay Street near the campus of the Medical College of Virginia. The facility, including parking, gardens, and other outbuildings, encompasses just over one half of a city block. With the most recent renovations of the galleries, education center, and event spaces, the Valentine sought to renew the primary public spaces on the first level and the lower level to create a new expression, combining both a contemporary aesthetic with a level of sensitivity to the historic character of the existing museum. The overall impact of the renovations has been remarkable both to the museum and to the neighborhood. The Valentine has seen a 30% increase in visitation since the reopening and a significant rise in the frequency of community-centered programming.

Hallsley Resident’s Club
The Hallsley Resident’s Club is a 5,200 square foot resident’s club and pool complex situated on five acres within the Hallsley neighborhood in Chesterfield County.  Known for architecturally diverse residences and catering to a multitude of families, East West Communities engaged Poole & Poole Architecture for the building’s design and Glavé & Holmes to design the interior and roof-covered outdoor spaces, as well as to consult on exterior finishes for both the building and pool. The concept for the interior design was to create a thoughtful reflection of the building’s architecture by introducing a fresh interpretation of traditional elements. Interior and exterior finishes, furniture, and lighting were selected to enhance the rustic, hand-crafted character of the space while being family-friendly and flexible for community events. The process also involved developing a comprehensive millwork package for the bar, kitchen, and restrooms to perform to commercial expectations for heavy use while contributing to the cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Our designers attended the Interior Design Excellence Awards at the Hippodrome Theater on October 9 to receive the awards.
